Family Therapy for Bipolar Disorder
Posted by Administrator in Mental Health. Here is an extremely interesting and unique online slideshow about family bipolar disorder treatment, with explanations of various studies, complete with easy to understand graphs. Here’s what just one of the “slides” has to say on this subject:
Psychosocial function of patients with bipolar I disorder: Patients are less likely to ever marry, compared to matched controls. For those who do marry, marital and family dysfunction is common , and nearly every family perceives the illness as a moderate to severe burden. Bipolar I disorder in adults can adversely affect the psychosocial functioning of their children. Rate of divorce is high – two to three times that of control group.
Another section addresses the various psychosocial issues of bipolar disorder:
– Emotional consequences of affective instability and having a chronic illness, including stigmatization. – Developmental deviations and delays caused by past episodes. – Regulation of self-esteem. – Fears of recurrence and subsequent inhibition of normal psychosocial functioning See slideshow
