Depression and Bipolar in the News
Posted by Administrator in Mental Health.Look! Here’s a great website that maintains a list of news story summaries regarding mood disorders. These stories are either from major media articles (such as Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report and Scientific American), US Government reports or reports based on medical studies. More than merely links, we summarize each article to help you decide whether its worth reading. Most articles are available for free on the web and when this is true, we provide a direct link to the article.
For those items that are not freely available, we provide instructions on how to obtain a copy of the article. Stories from 1997 through 2006 are available (see list above). Each year is a separate web page. If you know of an article that might be included here, feel free to forward the URL (link) to us using the webmaster E-mail address at the bottom of this page.
Other News Sources
Google has an advanced search page with an option for a “News Search”. This lets you search news stories in the media for the last week. There is no dedicated mood disorder functionality, but keywords such as “depression” or “bipolar” can be used. As of April, 2002 this is still being tested.
MEDLINE provides news stories by topic. Their page for topics beginning with D has new stories on Depression, their B topics page has stories on Bipolar Disorder. The Doctor’s Guide web site has depression related medical news and alerts. Visit website
